Disaster Nursing

Disaster nursing is the management and response of nurses during disasters. The nurses' response is crucial in both natural catastrophes like earthquakes and hurricanes as well as man-made disasters like conflicts and industrial mishaps. Preparation, reaction, and recovery are the stages of disaster nursing. Several agencies must collaborate in order to prevent and manage disasters. The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) sends disaster management assistance teams (DMATs) made up of professional and paraprofessional medical workers to provide medical care in the case of a disaster or other emergency. When there are natural or man-made disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, car accidents, or terrorist attacks using weapons of mass destruction, these teams support the federal medical response.
